2009 Lollapalooza Lineup

More artists will be announced as the festivals draw closer, but confirmed performers at Chicago’s Lollapalooza, which runs August 7-9, includes Beastie Boys, Jane’s Addiction, Depeche Mode, Tool, Kings of Leon, the Killers, Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird, Lou Reed, Neko Case, the Decemberists, and Peter Bjorn and John, reports Billboard. The complete lineup will be released April 21.

Lollapalooza has worked its way into my yearly calendar, which basically means I make sure to schedule all the things I wanna do in the summer around it. This will be my third one and nothing beats chilling out in Grant Park for 3 days while getting to listen to some of the best musical acts out there. I was lucky enough to score one of the $60 3 day passes through one of my buddies, so I’m even more stoked to go this year.

So what do I think of the lineup so far this year? Well, I think the headliners are decent. I’ve always wanted to see the Beastie Boys so that will be cool. I’ve also loved Kings of Leon, and saw them 2 years ago, so I’m looking forward to hearing their newer album live (which was one of my favs of 2008). I’ve never seen the Killers live, but never really got hooked on their new album, so I hope they mix a lot of their older stuff into their set. As for Janes Addiciton, I don’t know if they should have a headliner spot, but hey this is Perry Farrell’s thing so I guess it’s cool. Well as long as they play Jane Says…

All in all, no matter who plays there is sooo much music, and so many treasures of bands that you haven’t heard of, that you’re bound to have a great time. Let the countdown begin to the official announcement of bands so I can start downloading more music to get hyped up.

  2. I think this might be the first year in the past four that I don’t make it to Lollapalooza. The lineup looks ‘decent’ but is probably the weakest it’s been. Plus, I’m seeing Janes + NIN for their tour in May, I’ve seen KOL twice in the past couple years - so there isn’t much WOW factor for me this year - and I don’t know if I can justify springing $200 per ticket. I was lucky enough to get two $60 passes last year - this year, no such luck.

It’s kind of sad because it’s been sort of a ‘tradition’ for me as well, but I think I might have to sit this one out.

  3. I think this year has one of the best “mid level” lineups I’ve seen, just not the level of headliners we’d like to see. Hopefully there’s more to come with new albums by ‘headliner types’ Muse and Green Day due out later in the year. Probably too much wishing for me though…
